ATSDR Public Health Report Reveals Methane & Contaminates In Dimock Water After Fracking Began

Governor Wolf Responds to Ruffalo Letter Inviting Him to Meet with Families Impacted by Fracking

Statement by Pennsylvanians Against Fracking Spokesperson Karen Feridun

Harrisburg, PA – “Today, ATSDR released a public health report clearly demonstrating that methane and other contaminants entered private wells in Dimock after fracking began. It is clear that the drinking water of families and residents has been contaminated from the drilling of natural gas wells by fracking corporation Cabot Oil and Gas. There are more than 130 drilling violations at the Cabot Dimock wells, and a Pennsylvania jury recently found the corporation guilty of water contamination from negligent shale drilling.”

“ATSDR’s report was released just one day after actor and activist Mark Ruffalo delivered a letter to Governor Wolf,  inviting the governor to go with him to meet families who are suffering health impacts related to drilling and fracking operations in Northeast and Southwest Pennsylvania. Governor Wolf’s response to the letter highlighted that he has met with landowners and individuals, yet he has not followed up with a single person, or made the short trip to Dimock and other impacted areas of the state to see the devastation caused by fracking firsthand. It is not enough to simply claim to put the health and safety of Pennsylvania residents first. The Wolf administration should match rhetoric with action and enact an immediate fracking moratorium to protect Pennsylvanians from further harm.”
